Monumental Events – Leaving a Legacy
At any given moment in time if there were one monumental event occurring it would consume our hearts, minds and the news cycle. However, as we enter the last stretch of the election season there are numerous monumental events at play that will determine how we live as Americans not just in the short term, but for the next generation. Trump, regardless, will be leaving a legacy.
The Supreme Court
We thought the Cavanaugh inquisition was a circus. We haven’t seen anything yet. Amy Coney Barrett will be the pinnacle of craziness. I believe she will be the next justice in the Supreme Court but not without a fight. She is a God-fearing constitutionalist who cares about ALL human life—humans that are born and unborn. This is exactly what we need and will give freedom-loving Americans the security of knowing someone one the court loves God, loves, life, loves freedom, and loves America. I also believe we will lose a conservative from the court that will have to be replaced. At minimum President Trump has put 1/3 of the Justices in place (Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and probably Barrett) leaving a legacy. If there is another that makes four and he will have appointed almost ½ of the Supreme Court to a lifetime appointment! That legacy will live on for decades after President Trump is out of office.
Federal Circuits and Appeals Courts
194 the total 792 active federal judges have been appointed by President Trump according to Pew Research. How does this compare to other Presidents? Trump has appointed 24% of all of the active Federal Judges in just 3.5 years. President Obama appointed 312 (or 39% of all active Federal Judges), and George W. Bush appointed 166 or 21% of all of the active federal judges. Put this into perspective President Bush was President for eight years and President Trump has already appointed almost thirty more judges in three years that his eight total years.
President Obama was extremely active in packing the courts as he appointed 312 (39% of all of the active Federal Court judges). That changed the fabric of America for a while, but the tide is turning. President Trump is on pace to surpass that.
MSOM SPECIAL REPORT SR11: President Trump & Judicial Appointments: Leaving A Legacy
Leaving a Legacy in Federal Appeals Court
Something significant has already occurred. The Federal Appeals Court Judges that hear controversial cases and is most times the final say, unless the case is important enough to be heard by the Supreme Court have been largely impacted by Trump’s Presidency. To date, President Trump has appointed 53 Federal Appeals Court Judges. This is the most since President Carter in the late 1970s! Don’t forget, this was accomplished in just the first 3.5 years—there are many more to come.
As important as the Supreme Court is, most of our daily life laws are guided by the Federal Court Judges. President Trump is turning the tide and erasing the damage done by President Obama as many of his appointees have turned out to be activists that legislate from the bench. This is exciting, and now that we have a blueprint for success being established the rest is up to us.
What is Our Duty?
President Trump set the table for us. Now it’s up to us to make something from his hard work. Life is lived at the local level. Now that laws are going into effect that increase our freedom rather than destroy it, we must take as much ground as we can before it is taken away again. How do we do this? If we are able, we need to run for local positions such as county commissioner, city council, school board, mayor, etc. These local positions are important is almost all of life is lived in this area. We may not be able to personally get involved in national politics or run for a national office, but running for local offices is much more simple and cost effective. I encourage you to run! Run with everything you have and together we can help the president not just take back lost ground, but secure freedom for years to come.
One Last Story
I wanted to take a moment and reflect on courage by telling you a story. Let’s take a moment to ponder the life of Queen Esther, a Jewish queen of the Persian king Ahasuerus. Haman, the king’s right-hand man, tricked the king into signing a law that would have all of the Israelites killed. Esther’s parents, who were Israelites, already had died and she was raised by her cousin Mordecai. Through a series of events, King Xerxes chose Esther to be his queen. As was tradition however, anyone who came into Xerxes’ presence without being asked could be killed – even Esther!
She conquered her fear. She defied the odds and stood for what was right. She literally put her life on the line, entered the king’s chamber and spoke. She made her request to the king to have the horrible law changed – a law that would have killed all of her people, including herself. When Esther requested an audience with the king, what could the results have been? The answer is simple: Either she would find favor with the king and her request be granted, or she could have been killed for even making such a request.
The consequences were severe, but the act of one brave woman saved the lives of an entire nation. Consider the ancient monumental scripture that defined Esther: The scripture says, “If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”
There are certain turning points in our lives where we need take a stand for what is right. We need to make our voices heard. We may not be popular, we may even be putting our security and comfort levels at risk, but the implications for not acting may be the death of a culture, the death of a people group, the death of an economy, or the death of a civilization. An entire nation was at risk until Esther took a bold step of faith and essentially reconciled in her mind to be the sacrificial lamb for all her people. Think about where you could rise up, be courageous, defend the defenseless, and stand up for truth. The world needs heroes. Will you be one of them? This generation and future generations will be impacted by what we do now. Now is the time to let our light shine! You were born for such a time as this.
